Clinical Study of Prolonged Labor


Abstract
The clinical study of 250 prolonged labors among 2112 deliveries reveals the following statistical results.
1. The frequency of prolonged labor was 11.8%.
2. The incidence of prolonged labor was higher in the priori-para 76% than in the multi-para 24%.
3. The majority of 55.8% of all prolonged labors was among women aged between 25 to 29 years of age.
4. In most of cases, the prolonged labors required more than 40 hours of duration.
5. The highest incidence of the prolonged labor was the malpresentation of the fetus as 8.8%.
6. Among the prolonged labors, only 48.4% was the spontaneous vaginal delivery and the others required the correction during the labor.
7. In reviewing the complications following prolonged labor, 30.4% was the post-partum bleeding, 20.0% of puerperal infection and 11.2% of the manual removal of the intra-uterine placenta.
8. The perinatal mortality of the prolonged labor was 7.6%.
9. 28.8% of body weight of the newborn of the prolonged labor. was over 3.6kg and it shows that the prolonged labor had the relatively heavier baby than normal.
